BIOMIG is staffed by 12 researchers, mostly PhD candidates, under the guidance of Assistant Professor George Matsopoulos. All members have experience in computer programming and medical imaging applications.

Lead Research Manager: Ass. Professor George Matsopoulos

George K. Matsopoulos received his Diploma in Electrical Engineering in 1988 from the National Technical University of Athens. He received his M.Sc. in 1989 and his Ph.D. in Bioengineering Unit in 1993 from the University of Strathclyde, U.K. He is currently working as an Assistant Professor at the Institute of Communication and Computer Systems, National Technical University of Athens. His research interests include nonlinear image processing applied to medical applications, 2D and 3D registration of medical images and computer vision applications. Dr. Matsopoulos is a member of the IEEE, the Technical Chamber of Greece and the Hellenic Society of Biomedical Engineering.

Member: Theodore Economopoulos, PhD

Theodore Economopoulos was born in 1979 in Athens, Greece. He received his BEng in Electronic Engineering and Computer Science (2001) and MEng in Internet Technology (2002) from Aston University, UK. Finally, he received his PhD degree from the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA) in 2014. His research interests include biomedical technology, medical image processing and visualization, as well as data transmission techniques. He is an experienced C++, C#, Java and Visual Basic programmer. He worked for numerous software companies in the private sector and participated in three EU-funded projects

Member: Vasileios Korfiatis, PhD

Vasileios Korfiatis was born in Athens, Greece in 1986. He received his Diploma in Electrical and Computer Engineering in 2010 from the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA), and his Master in Business Administration (full-time MBA) in 2014 from the Athens University of Economics and Business (AUEB). He successfully defended his PhD thesis on 20/07/2016. His research interests include the gnostic fields of pattern recognition, machine learning, image processing and computer vision, focusing mainly on medical data and their applications. His technical skills include experience in Python, C/C++ and Matlab.

Member: Alexandra Korda, PhD Candidate

Alexandra Korda received her diploma in Applied Mathematics and Physical Sciences in 2008 from the National Technical University of Athens and her M.Sc. in Biomedical Engineering from the Inter-Departmental Educational Program of the University of Patras and the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering of the National Technical University of Athens in 2010. Currently she is a candidate for a Ph.D degree at the National Technical University of Athens. Her research interests include development of advanced signal processing techniques to produce new endophenotypes to study psychopathological entities.

Member: Maria-Pavlina Kalla, PhD Candidate

Maria-Pavlina Kalla was born in Athens in 1987 and lives in Corinth. She received her Diploma in Mathematics in 2010 and her M.Sc. in Computational Mathematics and Computer Science in 2012, from University of Patras. Currently she is a candidate for a Ph.D degree at the National Technical University of Athens. Her research interests include machine learning and digital image processing. She has programming experience in MATLAB, C/C++ and Java.

Member: Arianna Filntisi, PhD Candidate

Arianna Filntisi received her Diploma in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA) in 2012. She is a Ph.D candidate at the Biomedical Informatics Group at the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering of NTUA. Her research interests include informatics applications in the fields of biology, chemistry and medicine. She has collaborated with the Computational Biology Group of the Biomedical Research Foundation of the Academy of Athens and the Molecular Analysis Team of the National Hellenic Research Foundation. She has programming experience in C/C++, Matlab and Java.

Member: Kostas Bromis, PhD Candidate

Kostas Bromis graduated from the department of Computer Science of the University of Thessaly in 2009, specializing on Biomedical applications. In 2012 he completed his postgraduate studies on neuro-imaging in King's College London. There he focused on imaging techniques concerning the brain and in particular functional imaging and how this is related to various conditions (schizophrenia, epilepsy, etc). Currently he is a PhD candidate in the School of Electrical Engineering and Computer Engineering in NTUA. His research interests include the improvement of algorithms for the automatic identification of brain regions and the definition of graphs for analyzing the functional connectivity of brain networks, based on fMRI data.

Member: Meletios Liaskos, PhD Candidate

Meletios Liaskos was born in Athens, Greece in 1985. He received his Diploma in Biomedical Engineering (former Medical Instruments Technology) from the Technical Educational Institute (T.E.I.) of Athens in 2009. He received his M.Sc. in Medical Physics from the University of Patras in 2012. Currently he is a PhD Candidate in the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering of the National Technical University of Athens. His research interests include medical image processing. He has programming experience in Matlab.

Member: Stavros Miloulis, PhD Candidate

Stavros Miloulis received his diploma in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA) in 2014 and his M.Sc. in Information Technologies in Medicine and Biology (ITMB) from the Department of Informatics and Telecommunications of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens in 2016. He is currently a Ph.D. candidate in the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering of NTUA and his research interests include the processing of fMRI data and the application of fMRI in the study of brain function and brain conditions. He has programming experience in Matlab and R.

Member: Antonis Savva, PhD Candidate

Antonis Savva was born in Cyprus in 1989. He graduated from the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering of the National Technical University of Athens in 2014. His diploma thesis concerned the development of a supporting system for idiopathic scoliosis using the Kinect sensor. Currently he is a PhD candidate in the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering of the National Technical University of Athens. His research interests are digital processing of 2D/3D/4D imaging data (CT, MRI, fMRI), GPU-based algorithms optimization and bio-informatics. Moreover he is an associate of the Medical Image & Signal Processing Lab, Department of Biomedical Engineering - Technological Educational Institute of Athens. He has programming experience in C/C++, CUDA and Matlab.

Member: Mariniki Koliaraki, PhD Candidate

Mariniki Koliaraki was born in Athens, Greece in 1988. She graduated from the School of Applied Mathematics and Physical Science of the National Technical University of Athens in 2014. Her diploma thesis concerned the data analysis of time series of Inter Saccadic Intervals, using semi-markov processes. Currently she is a PhD candidate in the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering of the National Technical University of Athens. Her research interests include prediction models and pattern recognizing especially on data of eye movements with application in neuroscience. She has experience on statistic analysis and programming experience in Matlab.

Member: Christos Mavridis, PhD Candidate

Christos Mavridis received his Diploma in Electrical and Computer Engineering in 2012 and M.Sc in 2014 from the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA). He is currently a Ph.D candidate at NTUA and his research interests include Wireless Biosensors Networks and the utilization of the Kinect Sensor for Orthopedic Rehabilitation. His technical skills include programming in Java and C#.

Member: Pantelis Syringas, PhD Candidate

Pantelis Syringas was born in 1988 in Athens, Greece. He received his BEng in Electrical Engineering from Technological Institute of Piraeus in 2011 and his Diploma in Electrical and Computer Engineering in 2015 from the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA). He is a PhD candidate in the School of Electrical and Computer Engineering of the National Technical University of Athens. His research interests include biomedical technology and medical image processing. His technical skills include experience in C/C++ and Java.
